Glossary of translators’ terminology

Your company has decided to broaden its field of activity? For this reason you are planning negotiations with foreign partners or investors? But unfortunately you lack the knowledge of your partner's language?  Or it happened so that your company doesn't have a translator who can perform  interpretation?

This is no problem!

Please consult our company -- a translation bureau Antario M.

The staff of our company includes translators with the knowledge of business language.

The professional experience in negotiations of every interpreter amounts from 5 to 10 years.

The work of an interpreter in negotiations consists in the following: to transfer as accurately as possible to both parties present in the negotiations the information about the content of a co-operation or a deed.

Thereon relies the following development of a deed and conclusion of an agreement.

To have your negotiations conducted at the top level, you need to consult a translation bureau and:

-        To order the interpreter's service in two or three days before negotiations for the interpreter to have time for preparation;

-        To provide the information about the topic and the content of the negotiations to the interpreter  for examination;

-        If the negotiations would concern a technical topic, then to provide technical documentation;

-        After the interpreter has examined the documentation,  to order an appointment with the interpreter to make sure that his/her speech is articulate;

-        To learn about the professional experience of the interpreter in such events;

-        To pre-condition with the manager of the translation bureau the time and place of the interpreter's work;

-        To explain to the manager of the translation bureau the dress code of the interpreter;

-        To notify the manager if the number of partners present will exceed three persons;

-        To notify in case of traveling outside the city;

-        You should consult only a translation bureau with a considerable professional experience.

We wish you every success!

There are several factors that influence the interpreter's work in negotiations:

The important part of interpretation is additional information. Additional information is included in everything that condition verbal speech: the presence of situation, the contact between people that makes it possible to complement the speech with gestures and facial expressions. Besides that additional information is included in the pitch of principal tone, timbre, loudness, emphasis, pauses, tempo and rhythm of speech, its duration and expansion in time. Those characteristics are not always perceived consciously, but may contain additional information.

Under usual conditions intonation makes it possible to judge, where the principal idea of the message is expressed, whether in the main or in a subordinate clause. According to the intonation you may judge about completion or incompletion of an utterance, about its explicitness, definiteness or indefiniteness of an utterance. Intonation renders the emotional and volitional gradations of the message.

The interpreters' notation is an indispensable attribute of a qualified consecutive interpretation, thereby it is treated as an accessory memory means. The principal function of the interpreters' notation is to help the interpreter's memory to keep the text.

The formulation of an outgoing message represents the concluding stage of the interpretation process that is the stage of creation of the final product -- the text of the translation. In consecutive interpretation an outgoing message may be formulated only in verbal form. Therefore the first characteristic of the outgoing message is its formulation in oral speech.
